Do you have books to donate or trade?

Our Book Acquisition Process - Updated September 2026

We receive many calls from people interested in selling or donating books, and we are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our community. Please note our updated policies on donations, store credit, and consignments.

Cash Purchases
At this time, Athina Books is unable to purchase books for cash. We have a couple rare exceptions to this policy noted down below.

Donations
We greatly appreciate book donations and are currently able to accept only happy to accept one (1) bag or box* of books as donations without store credit.

Please note that we do not accept:

  • Textbooks

  • Books in poor condition

  • Musty or mildewed books

  • Books with significant damage or missing pages

Store Credit

Temporarily Pausing Book Trade-Ins for Store Credit

We are temporarily pausing our acceptance of books for store credit while we catch up on cataloging and processing the many wonderful books that have recently come through our doors. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through our backlog and make room for more new-to-us books. Please see the exceptions noted below on titles we are seeking, as we are still accepting certain titles in limited quantities (1 small bag or box* at a time).

Standard rates include:

  • Mass-market paperbacks: $0.25 per book

  • Trade paperbacks: $1.00 per book

  • Hardcover books credit is 1/4 the calculated store price.

Please allow up to one week for store credit to be calculated.

Additional store credit policies:

  • Store credit may not be applied to special orders.

  • Store credit may not be used toward purchases exceeding $200.

  • Books that are not accepted must be picked up within two (2) weeks of notification. Items not collected within that time become the property of Athina Books.

Consignments
Consignments are accepted only with prior approval from the owner. To qualify for consignment, items must have an estimated value of at least $100.

Consignment proceeds are divided as follows:

  • 60% to the seller

  • 40% to Athina Books

Any applicable fees, including credit card processing fees, online marketplace commissions, or similar selling expenses, will be deducted before proceeds are distributed.

What We're Looking For
Because of limited shelf space and changing customer demand, we are selective about the books we accept. We are primarily interested in:

  • Recent bestsellers

  • Popular and well-known classics

  • Books that are frequently requested by customers

  • Titles with demonstrated resale demand

Please note that many books may not be accepted, even if they are in good condition.

* For space reasons, please do not bring oversized containers. We cannot accept large boxes (larger than a standard banker’s box) or plastic storage bins or oversized bags.
